Web abuse tops misconduct figures

Internet and email 'abuse' is the main cause of disciplinary action against employees, according to a new survey. The survey, by KLegal and Personnel Today found that in the last 12 months the number of disciplinary actions, including dismissals, for Internet and email abuse was greater than the combined total for dishonesty, violence and health and safety violations combined. The most common examples of abuse were excessive Internet and email usage, sending pornographic emails, accessing Web sites containing pornographic material and sending emails that may damage the company's reputation. ...more

Microsoft takes on US eBay counterfeit traders

Microsoft is ramping up its campaign against counterfeiting, filing eight suits in the US against eBay traders selling dodgy software. Microsoft fingered seven of the defendants through customers using its Windows Genuine Advantage tool, which determines whether Microsoft software is genuine and allows them to submit reports of where they bought the software if it proves counterfeit. The job cuts continue

More hi-tech job losses have been announced, this time from the technology giants Ericsson and Nokia. Ericsson is shedding over 2,000 jobs in Sweden, the BBC has reported, and up to 1,200 jobs could go in the UK as the company closes two handset plants. The areas affected are Scunthorpe and Carlton, in Nottinghamshire, and the plants will be closed by September. ...more

Apple has opened an investigation into allegations in the Mail on Sunday about working conditions in iPod factories.
